Let’s Talk Habanero

Habanero peppers are a popular hot peppers out there! They are obviously really hot but also have this undertone of sweetness, which is a lovely combo. They are rated 100 000 out of 350 000 on the Scoville scale, which is hot but not deadly, but don’t underestimate them. With this attribute, it is also used as a natural insecticide for organic gardens.

The Homemade Hot Sauce

The homemade habanero sauce is an indispensable newcomer for the fridge; this version contains a few strawberries to make it extra fruity and bring out the fruity side of the habanero. Many recipes out in the Webosphere are with mango or papaya, but why not strawberries? This ruby red fruit fits perfectly with the blue cheese dip, unlike tropical fruits, and its acidity is spot on to neutralize some of the heat from the powerful habanero hot chillis. If you are brave enough for the habanero heat, go ahead and use some extra hot sauce on the wings.

Storage of the Hot Sauce

The vinegar and habanero will help preserve the sauce longer, although the strawberries being a fruit will make this sauce survive a bit less long. You can easily keep it for two weeks in the refrigerator if you can put it in a regular bottle without sterilization. Otherwise, in a well-sterilized and vacuumed vessel, you can keep it for way longer, about three months, without a problem.

Storage

You can keep the Habanero Wings in the fridge for up to 3 months, and it’s useful in many dishes; for example, if you want a grounded meat with a bit of kick to it, a spicier tomato sauce, a wok dish, ribs, etc.

The Blue Cheese Dip

bluecheese dip and homemade habanero sauce

The blue cheese dip is a creamy touch to soothe your tongue when the habanero is burning too much. That dip is a perfect remedy to all that heat. Also, handmade and terribly easy to make. I’ve used my favourite blue cheese, Roquefort and a touch of cream, and that’s pretty much all it contains. So easy! Additionally, it is a fantastic dip for the crunchy veggies, too!

Storage

You can keep the leftovers in the refrigerator for 2-3 days in an air-tight container. Simply pop them back in the oven (or Air fryer) to reheat them until hot and voila! You can also freeze them for a few weeks without a problem.
