Mexican stuffed sweet potato is all the flavours of a great spicy taco inside a double-baked sweet potato. An easy homemade spicy taco mix to season the meat, a few fresh tomato dice, crunchy lettuce and cheddar and a final smooth touch of sour cream. What if we merge it into a lovely crunchy, Mexican Stuffed Sweet Potato? The spicy taco mix goes to perfection with the sweetness of the potato, plus you get some excellent fresh and crunchy toppings and sour cream to make it taste fully like a Taco. Homemade Taco Spice-Mix No need to go buy a “Mexican spice mix” at the store; this excellent taco seasoning is often already in your pantry! A Beef Asian Bone Broth Soup with rice pho noodles topped with roasted Shiitake, spinach, carrots and scallions for a bowl filled with flavours and a touch of heat! It’s a recipe I wanted to do for a while: Asian Bone Broth Soup. It’s basically to simmer the thick beef bones and knuckles for at least 24 hours up to 3 days. This way, you’ll get all the goods and flavours from the dense bones. The process is pretty much the same as any broth… you sear the bones, add aromatics and wait. Yes… it’s that simple, although you must keep an eye on the liquid level and add some water when it goes too low. Once the broth is done, you can either drink it as it is or do anything with it; for this post, I’ve done an Asian flair broth. I gave the broth a little “pho” mix of…
Spicy-Mango Shrimp Skewers are a colorful, tropical and most of all delicious. Spicy and sweet is one of my favorite combination, although it’s a mildly spiced recipe. Those skewers remind me of Caribbean food, especially with the mango and little sprinkle of grated (unsweetened) coconut. You can simply make a bunch of those under 15 minutes, no need to marinate, on the BBQ or the oven, so simple to make. The solely added ingredients, other than the obvious ones, are a spicy paprika or any hot pepper powder you prefer and coconut shreds. If you don’t want to let go of summer, this is the way, it will warm you right up. This dish can be serve as an appetizer or main meal, it’s light, fresh and filled with vitamins, in other words, a healthy dish. You also could make smaller version of skewers for a hors d’oeuvre style dinner or tapas night. I’ve added…
Spicy bolognese with sweet potato lasagna is a new discovery, a punchy spicy bolognese sauce with a few layers of sweet potatoes to replace the lasagna pasta layers. Making this dish a gluten free one with tons of flavors and frankly, the spicy-sweet touch is simply irresistible. Plus, to give some extra smooth texture to the lasagna, I’ve added a bechamel in the middle layer, just to smooth things out. The result is a delicious contrast of spicy, sweet and creamy lasagna. Talking sweet potatoes, those are the healthier choice to go with, they contains a lower glycemic index and carbs than normal potatoes, plus they contain more vitamin A which is good for the eyes. The sweet potato only “problem” would be its taste; it’s almost too sweet. But when it’s equilibrated with enough spicy element, it becomes this perfect match, a delicious one. The recipe is separated into 3 parts, first the making of…
Spicy Chicken Stuffed Peppers is a fun sweet and spicy mix of sauté chicken, pineapple, and onion with a touch of habanero hot pepper. A fun dish with a fiery fruity combination. Habanero hot peppers are not for everyone, most of the time you need to be brave to eat them, after all, they are pretty high on the Scoville scale. The good news here is you can use the pepper in moderation accompany by some sweet factor (in this case pineapple) which helps to balance the heat from the hot pepper. I use a homemade dehydrated habanero powder, but freshly chopped habanero works wonders too. For this Spicy Chicken Stuffed Peppers recipe, you can use any style of hot pepper and the format you prefer whether it’s powder, sauce or fresh. The dosage is all up to you, make sure to do it little by little to prevent a killing spicy dish. Habanero Peppers…
Bloody Mary is a classic cocktail made of tomato juice, vodka and a touch of heat to bring some veggies into your diet. For those last days of winter, before the heat comes, just a little hot Bloody Mary drink will warm you up! A drink made largely of vegetables is a tad different. It’s a bit of everything; spices, veggies, vodka… Back in Canada, where I’m from, they do a version with Clamato juice (mildly spicy clam broth and tomato juice) instead of simple tomato juice, they call it Bloody Caesar. Since Clamato isn’t easy to find in Europe where I live… I have to use tomato juice, and spice it up! I’ve also added some celery salt, which I think is an important element to this drink. Obviously, living in Spain, I add a little ingredient called “Salsa Espinaler” which is basically a vinegar and paprika sauce instead of…
Indian Cauliflower is a simple side dish made of cauliflower floret covert in Indian Aromatics and grilled in the oven for a healthy, low-carb and powerful side to any Indian food! Cauliflower has a delicate taste and texture; why not give it an edge and spice it up? The usual dish contains potatoes, but for this version, I skip them. Other versions are with deep-fried battered cauliflower, and since I’m on an eternal diet… I should have cut out the frying, so I did a lighter version. I’m not an “extra spicy” kind of person; I like it in moderation… So I used only 3 tsp of Garam Masala spice (which is spicy), but it’s up to you; add one more of those spoons, and you’ll get a rock n-roll Indian Cauliflower! The Spice Mix To ensure the spices envelop the whole veggies correctly, add a tad of water to the…
This recipe is a bite into the tropics, brings you right to those caribbean islands, also is a great recipe for those people on eternal diet, like myself. You can spice it up to your liking and with whichever is your favorite hot pepper… mine are the habanero peppers. My husband happen to grow them and I obviously have too many, so I dehydrate them and make powder out of them. I’m not usually a big hot pepper lover but this one is special… the habanero has that fruity taste to it. I encountered with this hot pepper in Martinique, a caribbean island. Since then… I add it to many of my spicier recipes, like the spicy “ratatouille” spaghetti sauce with a bit of habanero pepper, it’s fantastic or I do “spicy cod fritters” which is a “typical” meal from the Antilles. They eat those balls like candies over there,…
